Deputy Prime Minister and MSIT Minister Bae Kyung-hoon announced that the South Korean government will review its current artificial intelligence evaluation systems to ensure they remain effective as technology trends change rapidly. This move follows an objection from Motif Technologies, which was eliminated in the second-round evaluation of the Sovereign AI Foundation Model project despite achieving the highest score on a global benchmark. Bae Kyung-hoon stated that the government needs to fundamentally reconsider competition methods established over a year ago to produce world-class results. The Ministry of Science and ICT will focus on procedural transparency and will consult with participating companies to incorporate recent technological shifts into the third-round evaluation. The ministry aims to create a world-class AI model that is globally recognized and leaves no room for dispute. This review process will help the government refine how it concentrates investment and evaluates the models to ensure they remain competitive on a global scale.
