Pedro Sánchez Accuses Israel and Russia of Spreading Disinformation Regarding Ceuta Migration Crisis
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that Israel and Russia organized internet campaigns to spread disinformation following a mass migration event into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Between July 30 and July 31, approximately 72,000 migrants crossed into the territory, during which at least 100 people were allegedly killed by the sea. Sánchez attributed the surge to human trafficking networks that exploited a misinterpretation of Spain's border policy. While some reports suggested Moroccan authorities were responsible for pushing migrants into the enclave, Sánchez maintained there was no intelligence evidence to suggest Morocco's involvement. He noted that the disinformation campaigns were likely motivated by Spain's political positions regarding the conflict in Gaza and the invasion of Ukraine. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar called Sánchez's claims a "brazen lie," while a Kremlin spokesperson rejected the allegation that Russia was involved. Despite the ongoing crisis, thousands of migrants remain in Ceuta, causing public order issues and leading to some residents to demand the resignation of the government.
