Sonia Dinnall Announces Closure of Springfield Public Schools on Tuesday Following a Cyber Incident

Superintendent Sonia Dinnall announced that Springfield Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, September 8, following a cyber incident. The incident has interrupted the service of systems necessary for essential school operations. Sonia Dinnall stated that the closure will allow district officials to address the issue fully and organize backup plans for non-essential technology tools, such as attendance reporting, once school resumes. All staff and students with district-issued laptops are directed to stay off of the district network systems until further notice. Sonia Dinnall noted that the decision to make an unexpected closure was not made lightly, as the health and safety of those inside the school buildings remains the most important consideration. After-school activities are also canceled for Tuesday. While the schools are closed, the SPS Central Office will remain open, though some services, including phone lines, may be impacted.
