Pierre Damas Bel, a 20-year-old Haitian college student, died in an apparent suicide on August 31. Bel was struck and killed by a semi-truck on Interstate 70 east of Springfield after leaving his 2006 Toyota Avalon on the side of the road and entering the westbound lanes.

His father, Pierre Ronal Bel, stated that Bel called him at 8:03 a.m. on the day of his death, reporting that he was not feeling mentally well due to the bullying.
