Governor Green Prepares Hawaii for Tropical Depression Two-C as Recovery from Hurricane Lala Continues

Governor Green is coordinating recovery efforts following the severe damage caused by Hurricane Lala, while preparing the state for the arrival of Tropical Depression Two-C. The storm is forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm and pass south of the Hawaiian Islands, potentially bringing 10 to 15 inches of rain to the Big Island and up to 4 inches to eastern Maui. State officials are currently managing debris clearance and power restoration, with 13,380 customers still without electricity. Governor Green is considering a temporary recovery village to house displaced residents and has called for a long-term overhaul of the state's energy grid. To support the immediate recovery, the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation has deployed over $732,000 in grants, supplemented by donations from private philanthropists. National Guard troops are also assisting with wellness checks and recovering remains from inundated cemeteries. Residents are encouraged to maintain two weeks of supplies to mitigate potential supply chain disruptions caused by overseas shipping.
