Severe storms and multiple tornadoes strike Western and Central New York on Wednesday

Severe thunderstorms and flash flooding struck Western and Central New York on Wednesday, causing widespread power outages and significant property damage. The National Weather Service confirmed multiple tornadoes in Seneca County, including an EF2 tornado with winds up to 115 mph that tracked through Fayette and an EF1 tornado with winds up to 95 mph that moved through Waterloo and into Seneca Falls. The storms also produced straight-line wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph, which knocked down trees and power lines across Seneca, Ontario, and Wayne Counties. Flash flooding occurred in Solvay, affecting the NYS Fairgrounds. In Western New York, over 10,000 homes and businesses remained without power on Thursday morning, with a total of 38,000 customers losing power at one point. Utility crews are currently working to repair the damaged wires and clear the roads of debris.
