First responders arrived at the approximately 8:30 a.m. and found school staff, including a nurse, administering CPR and life-saving measures to the student. Portland Fire & Rescue crews wore breathing equipment and hazmat suits to protect against potential gas exposure while moving the student to an ambulance. A hazardous materials team subsequently neutralized the liquid spilled on the floor to eliminate off-gassing and health concerns. The incident prompted an immediate evacuation of the school to nearby athletic fields. Portland Public Schools announced that classes are canceled through Wednesday night.
