Authorities in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area reported that heavy rains on Saturday, August 22, caused severe flooding and infrastructure complications across several municipalities. Civil Protection agencies are currently conducting tours to identify the most affected areas, including Guadalajara, Zapopan, and Tlaquepaque. In Tlaquepaque, officials are investigating whether a person was swept away by a current in the Santa María Tequepexpan neighborhood. Meanwhile, Guadalajara firefighters rescued 20 people stranded in a vehicle on Avenue Colón and Rosario Castellanos, where water levels reached approximately 1.5 meters. Civil Protection in Zapopan reported several conflict points on Avenue López Mateos and other major roads, where workers performed de-silting to improve water flow. Public transportation was significantly impacted, with the Urban Electric Train System (Siteur) suspending service on Lines 1 and 4 due to high water levels at Los Artesanos and Isla Raza. The storm also caused delays in local sports events, such as the Chivas vs. Xolos match and the Charros vs. Toros game, both of which were postponed until later in the evening.
