Governor Brian Kemp suspends all seven members of the Dublin City School Board of Education

Governor Brian Kemp signed an executive order suspending all seven members of the Dublin City Board of Education following a unanimous recommendation from the Georgia State Board of Education. The suspension follows a severe $20 million financial crisis that left the district with a significant deficit, resulting in massive job cuts, the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Fredrick C. Williams, and a downgrade in the district's accreditation status. During a recent hearing in Atlanta, the state board argued that the current board members failed to properly oversee the district's finances for nearly two decades. In response, the board's attorneys claimed the members were misled by the former financial director, Chad McDaniel. Governor Brian Kemp appointed a nominating committee, chaired by Matt Donaldson, to select temporary replacements for the board. This committee includes Matt Hatchett, Larry Walker, Phil Best, and Edwin May. The committee will submit nominations to Governor Brian Kemp to ensure stability and restore confidence for students, families, and taxpayers.
