Chicago police and SWAT teams responded to a more than nine-hour standoff in Logan Square on Labor Day. The incident began around 11:45 a.m. near the intersection of North Kimball Avenue and West Wrightwood Avenue. Authorities responded to a call for service in the area, which resulted in a large police presence including armored vehicles and SWAT teams. Police blocked off multiple roads, and the CTA temporarily rerouted No. 82 Kimball/Homan buses. Residents were kept out of their homes for several hours as officers worked the scene. During the standoff, police repeatedly warned of an active shooter and deployed pepper balls. A man and his dog were reported to be inside a building, with the man reportedly having a rifle. A neighbor stated the suspect was working on a personal project inside his home. Police have not released specific details regarding what prompted the standoff or whether any injuries occurred.
