Asaad al-Shaibani Urges Israel to Seize Historic Opportunity for Diplomacy and Security Agreement

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani stated that the door for diplomacy with Israel remains open, urging the nation to seize a "historic opportunity" to resume negotiations. The talks, which were frozen at the start of the US-Israel war on Iran, concern a security deal that would require Israel to cease its attacks on Syrian territory and withdraw from areas seized after the fall of Bashar al-Assad. Al-Shaibani noted that while Syria currently lacks trust in Israel due to its persistent military actions, Damascus is prioritizing the immediate cessation of Israeli aggression. He emphasized that Syria is extending a hand for peace and regional stability, despite Israel's previous attempts to maintain security through brute force. Additionally, al-Shaibani expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its military support and noted that the United States is pressuring Israel to return to the dialogue table. He stated that the priority is to stop Israeli aggression first, which may eventually lead to discussions regarding peace and the Golan Heights.
