Stripe and Advent International are in active negotiations to acquire PayPal for a potential valuation of over $53 billion.
Stripe and Advent International are currently in talks to purchase PayPal, a move that could value the online payment system at more than $53 billion. The consortium, led by private fintech rival Stripe and private-equity firm Advent International, previously offered $60.50 per share in July, which the PayPal board initially rejected as insufficient. However, renewed negotiations have since continued, and a deal could potentially be announced in the coming weeks if the parties reach an agreement on a higher price per share. Enrique Lores, the CEO of PayPal, confirmed that the board is objectively evaluating every opportunity to maximize long-term shareholder value. If the acquisition proceeds, Stripe and Advent International would become joint owners of PayPal, with no plans to break up the company. The merger would combine Stripe's merchant processing business with PayPal's consumer network, including Venmo and its crypto features. This transaction would represent one of the largest deals in the history of the financial technology sector, creating a global payments giant capable of processing approximately $3.7 trillion in annual payments.
