The student followed Williams into an empty classroom, closed the door, and pulled a large kitchen knife from his bag to strike her. Williams reported that the student looked at her with "pure hatred" as he stabbed her. She managed to defend herself by grabbing the knife and pushing the student back with her legs. The attack resulted in injuries to Williams's head, back, and hands. During the trial, the student was found not guilty of attempted murder but guilty of wounding with intent.
