Michael Yakimov arrested for allegedly starting deadly Chelan Hills Fire that killed Robert Lister

An 18-year-old man from Kent, Michael Yakimov, has been arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter and arson following the Chelan Hills Fire in July. Authorities state that Yakimov was part of a group of people who were shooting illegal fireworks from the back of a truck, which ignited the wildfire. The fire burned roughly 15.6 square miles, destroyed more than 100 structures, and killed 69-year-old Robert Lister, whose vehicle was consumed by the flames. Douglas County Sheriff Tyler Caille stated that Yakimov is considered a flight risk and is being held on a $1 million bond. The sheriff's office is also seeking arrest warrants for five other adults who were allegedly complicit in the fire's ignition. While Yakimov's family and friends expressed some doubt regarding his primary responsibility for the fire, they noted that all involved parties should be held accountable. The investigation utilized cell phone data, surveillance, and Flock camera footage to identify the suspect vehicle. Yakimov faces additional charges of first-degree malicious mischief and six counts of assault for each firefighter injured during the blaze.
