Powerful Surf Damages Beachfront Homes in Dana Point as Capistrano Bay District Faces Coastal Erosion

Powerful waves and high tides from Tropical Storm Marie battered the Orange County coastline this week, causing significant damage to beachfront properties in the Capistrano Bay District of Dana Point. At least 14 homes were impacted, with seven homes red-tagged as uninhabitable and two others yellow-tagged. One home was completely destroyed by the ocean's force. Construction crews and property owners are working to shore up the damaged structures. Interim emergency measures include the installation of a boulder revetment behind the homes to protect against further wave action. Residents and officials have expressed concern over the ongoing erosion of sand that previously protected the shoreline. City officials are monitoring the damage and coordinating with property owners to facilitate repairs. While the damage is extensive, no injuries were reported. The surf also affected other coastal communities, including Long Beach and Malibu, where several homes were evacuated due to the high surf conditions.
