President Abelardo de la Espriella Announces Reconstruction Plan and Direct Aid for Earthquake Victims

The administration announced a comprehensive reconstruction plan, known as Plan Milagro, to address the damage caused by a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the western part of the country last August 10th. President Abelardo de la Espriella designated Jaime Uribe as the manager of the Fondo Milagro, which will oversee the allocation of resources for infrastructure projects such as hospitals, roads, and airports. To provide immediate relief, the administration announced a temporary rental subsidy and direct economic aid for families in specific regions. In Choc贸, families with uninhabitable homes will receive 875,452 pesos per month for three months. In Buenaventura, the administration announced a 1.050.000 pesos monthly support for families registered in the Unique Registry of Affected Persons. Additionally, the administration announced the delivery of 51 houses donated by private companies, with the first house delivered in Buenaventura by the Eternit company. The administration also declared a State of Economic, Social and Ecological Emergency through Decree 1261, which allows for immediate measures including special credit conditions and health care indemnities for victims.
