The administration announced that Alejandro Eder and President Abelardo de la Espriella met at the Palacio de San Carlos to review progress on the reconstruction of Cali following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred on August 10. Alejandro Eder stated that emergency decrees are expected to be released soon to free up resources for the reconstruction process. Local authorities have evaluated 51,132 families to identify damages and needs, reporting 45,052 citizens as affected. The earthquake resulted in 154 deaths and 29 injuries in the city. To accommodate displaced residents, the administration relocated 483 people from 176 families to 11 hotels. Additionally, 213 people remain in self-managed shelters, including those in Santa Elena and Chiminangos. Infrastructure assessments have been conducted on 1,638 buildings, with 414 classified as habitable, 743 as uninhabitable, and 444 as restricted use. Authorities have collected 81,604 tons of debris from 706 zones. In the education sector, 338 schools were evaluated, with 214 reporting damage and 9 being completely disabled. Private institutions like Pilatunas Kindergarten are also facing challenges, with director Adriana Maria Esguerra noting a reduction in student population by more than 50% due to families being evicted from adjacent homes.
