Karmelo Anthony's defense team argued that a "gentleman's agreement" between the prosecution and trial defense limited the jury's understanding of the defendant's character and coerced Anthony into waiving his right to testify. They also alleged that the original trial judge, John Roach, violated judicial conduct rules by making public comments and imposing strict courtroom restrictions. Despite these arguments, the court maintained the current verdict. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis expressed confidence in the judicial process, while appellate lawyer Russell Wilson confirmed that the legal team will continue to pursue an appeal in the Fifth Court of Appeals.
