French President Emmanuel Macron and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung co-chaired the Lumière Summit in Saint-Paul-de-Vence on Monday. The event gathered over 200 high-profile figures from the global film and audiovisual industries to address challenges posed by artificial intelligence, streaming platforms, and the creator economy. During the summit, the administration announced a €1 billion investment through the Lumière Partnership, with France and South Korea each pledging €500 million to support the visual media industry. The leaders also launched several initiatives, including the Lumière Alliance, a network of 54 national film agencies, and the International Resilience Initiative for Independent Screens (IRIS), which aims to support independent cinema distribution. President Macron emphasized the need for transparency in AI-generated content and the importance of protecting intellectual property. President Lee Jae Myung advocated for human-centric AI that serves creativity rather than replacing it. The summit concluded with the signing of the Lumière Declaration, which established 15 principles for global film governance, focusing on cultural diversity, the protection of works, and the enduring value of the theatrical experience.
