House Republicans Prioritize Stopgap Funding Bill to Prevent Government Shutdown
The US House of Representatives is returning from a five-week recess with the primary goal of passing a short-term funding bill to avoid a government shutdown. The House also plans to work on a censure resolution for Chuck Edwards, a Republican from North Carolina, following an investigation into his unprofessional conduct toward staffers. While Edwards has disputed the findings, he has already withdrawn his bid for the reelection campaign. Additionally, the House will consider a resolution condemning socialism in all its forms, a move intended to counter the rise of democratic socialist candidates in the Democratic primaries. The House will leave for a Labor Day recess at the end of the week.
