Lindsay Clancy faces first-degree murder charges for strangling three children during a state of postpartum psychosis

Lindsay Clancy is currently facing a jury's verdict in a trial to determine her criminal responsibility for the deaths of her three children: Cora, Dawson, and Callan. The 36-year-old mother is accused of strangling the children in the basement of her Massachusetts home over three years ago. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington argues that Clancy was in a state of postpartum psychosis, a rare mental illness that caused her to act on auditory hallucinations. The prosecution, however, contends that Clancy was aware of her actions and acted with intention, seeking a first-degree murder conviction. If found guilty of first-degree murder, Clancy faces life without parole. The jury, consisting of nine women and three men, has the option to convict her of lesser charges, such as second-degree murder or manslaughter, or find her not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. If the latter occurs, she will be committed to a state mental health facility. The jury has been dismissed until Tuesday morning after a day of deliberations.
