Mitsubishi Pajero Returns as a Ladder-Frame SUV with a 2.4-Liter Turbodiesel Engine

Mitsubishi has officially unveiled the fifth generation of the Pajero, a body-on-frame off-roader that returns after the previous model ended production in 2021. The new SUV features a ladder-frame platform shared with the Triton pickup, utilizing a high-mounted double-wishbone front suspension and a new five-link rigid rear axle. It is powered by a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine producing 201 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is designed to balance off-road capability with on-road refinement, featuring 9.1 inches of ground clearance and a Super Select 4WD II system. While the Pajero will launch in Thailand, Japan, and Australia by March 2027, the administration of Mitsubishi has not yet decided whether to bring the vehicle to the United States. The interior includes a three-row layout seating seven people, featuring a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system and dual 14.3-inch screens. Mitsubishi also showcased a Pajero Rally Concept to highlight the vehicle's motorsport heritage, though a high-performance Ralliart production model is not yet confirmed.
