Bystanders and Police Rescue Woman Trapped Under Volkswagen Beetle in Prospect Park
A 44-year-old woman was hospitalized after becoming trapped beneath a Volkswagen Beetle following an e-bike crash in Prospect Park on Monday morning. The collision occurred at the intersection of 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue around 9:30 a.m. The woman was riding her e-bike between cars and the sidewalk when she was struck by the vehicle as it turned. Neighbors and nearby workers rushed to the scene to assist. Amelia Cannon and Christine Vollmer were among those who responded to the woman's screams for help. FedEx driver Karl Wise lifted the car and pulled the woman out. The woman was taken to Lankenau Hospital with chest injuries and a broken collarbone, where she remains in stable condition. Prospect Park Police Chief Dave Madonna praised the bystanders for using brute force to lift the vehicle. The chief noted that the e-bike rider was traveling at a high speed without a helmet. While the driver of the car will not face charges, the e-bike rider may face traffic citations depending on the investigation.
