The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has identified 3.2 million vehicles currently carrying an outstanding "park outside" recall. These specific recalls warn owners that their vehicles may burst into flames even while turned off, a risk primarily driven by the increasing complexity of vehicle electronics and battery architecture. Drivers of models such as the Jeep Gladiator, Jeep Wrangler, Kia Telluride, and BMW 530e xDrive are specifically advised to park away from buildings and other cars until repairs are finalized. While traditional recalls address defects felt during operation, these warnings serve as a holding pattern for hazards like overheating seat motors or damaged battery cells. Safety advocates note that these recalls are becoming more frequent as vehicles become more technologically advanced. For example, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued 17 such campaigns in the first seven months of 2026. Manufacturers are expected to eventually update software or replace high-voltage battery components to resolve the issues.
