Poland Unveils New Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle at MSPO Defense Exhibition

Poland has presented a technology demonstrator for a new heavy infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) at the MSPO defense exhibition in Kielce. Developed by the state-owned defense group Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), the vehicle, known as the Ciężki Bojowy Wóz Piechoty (CBWP), is designed to prioritize protection and battlefield survivability. Weighing between 40 and 43 tons, the CBWP is significantly heavier than the lighter Borsuk IFV. It features a three-person crew, can carry up to eight infantrymen, and is equipped with a ZSSW-30 remotely operated turret. This turret includes a 30mm cannon with programmable ammunition and Rafael Spike anti-tank guided missiles. The vehicle also incorporates advanced ballistic and mine protection, including specialized mine-resistant seats and an integrated nuclear, biological, and chemical protection system. The administration announced that the CBWP could enter serial production as early as 2029. Military officials expect Poland to procure approximately 700 of these heavy IFVs. The vehicle serves as a flagship export product for the Polish defense industry, which aims to transition from a primary buyer of foreign military gear to a major producer and exporter.
