Denver ranks 8th and Fort Collins ranks 19th among 25 United States cities for the most ozone-polluted cities. Clean air advocates stated that air pollution impacts individuals differently, particularly those with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Symptoms include wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, asthma attacks, and worsening COPD and lung cancer. Other conditions include premature death, susceptibility to infections, and heart attacks. Freisinger, who has bad asthma, noted that poor air quality has forced her to cancel activities she loves and stay inside. The Regional Air Quality Council is developing a 'Control Strategy Blueprint' to improve air quality. Recommendations include using electric vehicles and equipment and avoiding outdoor activities from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The full report will be released this fall.
