The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado over Dover Speedway at approximately 6:18 p.m., reporting a large debris signature over the capital city. Significant damage was reported along the Division Street and Lockerman Street corridor, with the Days Inn and Superlodge hotels on North DuPont Highway suffering partially ripped-off roofs and blown-out windows. The storm also impacted the local Kraft Foods facility and a Little League field. Dover Police Department spokesperson Lt. Mark Hoffman described the destruction as a miracle that no serious injuries were reported. While the city dealt with numerous downed trees and flooded roadways, emergency crews worked to clear debris and repair power lines. The state of emergency was lifted on Friday afternoon as the National Weather Service began surveying the damage. Residents were urged to stay home to allow emergency responders to work efficiently.
