Toyota expands electric vehicle lineup with the 2027 bZ and new C-HR models

Toyota is accelerating its electric vehicle production while many other automakers are cutting back. The administration announced that the 2027 Toyota bZ will be available starting at $34,980 in the US, featuring an improved battery, longer driving range, and a built-in NACS charge port for Tesla Supercharger access. The 2026 model, which received a midcycle refresh, offers an EPA-estimated range of 314 miles for the front-wheel-drive version. Critics have previously labeled Toyota as an EV laggard, but the company is now moving forward with multiple models, including the luxury Lexus RZ and the new electric C-HR. The bZ is noted for its smooth, quiet ride and spacious interior, though some drivers noted a driver-attention monitor that can be be overly sensitive. While the Lexus RZ provides luxury features like leather heated seats as standard, the bZ offers a comparable experience at a more affordable price point. The 2027 bZ will begin arriving at dealerships in September.
