President Abelardo De La Espriella Announces Subsidies and Housing Donations for Earthquake Victims in Choc贸 and Valle del Cauca
President Abelardo De La Espriella announced that the government will begin providing monthly subsidies of $1,050,000 to victims of the August 10 earthquake starting next Wednesday. The administration announced that these funds will support the reconstruction of homes and vital infrastructure in the affected regions of Choc贸 and Valle del Cauca. To further assist the most impacted areas, President Abelardo De La Espriella, alongside the UNGRD director and local authorities, confirmed the donation of 500 homes to the department of Choc贸. The National Unit for Risk Management of Disasters (UNGRD) has established technical guidelines to evaluate buildings and ensure consistent records across the country. These evaluations will occur in two phases: a rapid visual inspection to determine immediate occupancy, and a detailed evaluation to confirm final classifications and intervention recommendations. Vital infrastructure, such as hospitals and schools, will receive priority during the assessment process.
