Tropical Storm Dolly is forecast to provide rain for the Caribbean despite its name being a coincidence with Dolly Parton's death

The National Hurricane Center announced that the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are moving west toward the Caribbean, where they are expected to bring heavy rain to the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola over the weekend. Although the storm was downgraded to a remnant low, it is expected to produce flash flooding in higher-elevation areas. Meteorologists noted that the name "Dolly" is purely coincidental and was not chosen to honor the late country music icon Dolly Parton, who died recently. The name was established by the World Meteorological Organization 30 years ago to replace the name Diana. The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is currently running below average, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicting a quiet start. The administration announced that the current season is expected to have between seven and 13 named storms, which is lower than the average of 14. The remnants of Dolly will provide much-needed moisture to Puerto Rico, which is currently facing a severe drought.
