Tropical Storm Edouard could form in the Gulf as Texas and Louisiana prepare for heavy rain and storms.
The National Hurricane Center has announced that Potential Tropical Cyclone Five is currently developing in the Gulf, with a 70% chance of strengthening into a tropical depression or tropical storm named Edouard. The system is moving west-northwest toward the upper Texas and southwestern Louisiana coasts, where it is expected to arrive late Monday or Tuesday. Forecasters indicate that the system will produce locally heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, with the Houston Metro area potentially receiving 3 to 5 inches of rain. A Level 2 out of 4 flood threat has been issued for Houston, including the possibility of coastal flooding. While widespread damaging winds are not expected, residents from Galveston to Southwest Louisiana should monitor the development closely. Meanwhile, the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly continue to produce showers and thunderstorms across Hispaniola to the northern Leeward Islands, though its development chances are near-zero over the next 48 hours.
