Sgt. Aaron Cross Criticizes Pima County Sheriff's Department for Handling Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Investigation
Sgt. Aaron Cross, president of the Pima County Deputies Organization, criticized the Pima County Sheriff's Department for its handling of the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping investigation. Cross stated that the department made a significant error by relinquishing the crime scene to the family too quickly. He also noted that the lead sergeant on the case lacked sufficient homicide experience, having been promoted to sergeant in 2023 and assigned to the homicide unit without prior experience in that field. Cross described the investigators as novice detectives, noting that it was unusual for a team with limited experience to lead such a high-profile case. While acknowledging the FBI's role in uncovering door camera footage of the masked suspect, Cross expressed frustration with the command staff's approach to the investigation. Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, was abducted from her Tucson home on February 1. The case remains unsolved, with no suspect named yet.
