The General Services Administration announced a new multi-year agreement with OpenAI to provide federal, state, local, and tribal governments with discounted access to advanced artificial intelligence models. Under the terms of the deal, government entities will receive a 50% discount on usage costs compared to standard commercial rates, while the license fee for federal users will be $0, replacing a previous pilot program that charged $1 per year. This agreement was secured using the OneGov procurement strategy, a new initiative under the administration to secure massive discounts on government acquisitions by purchasing in bulk. The deal includes expanded support for public-sector cyber defenders, providing verified government entities with access to Daybreak Blue at a 50% discount. Edward C. Forst, the General Services Administration head, stated that the agreement provides a secure, governmentwide framework that helps agencies adopt AI at scale. Sam Altman, the CEO of the OpenAI Inc., noted that secure access to the best AI tools can help government be more efficient and strengthen cybersecurity.
