Tesla Releases Interest Form for Third-Party Cybercab Fleets and Infrastructure
Tesla released a form on Thursday for businesses interested in purchasing Cybercab fleets or providing infrastructure for its network. This move indicates that the company intends to scale its autonomous vehicle operations by involving third-party operators rather than keeping the business entirely in-house. Interested parties can choose from several options, including purchasing Cybercab fleets, mobility hubs, and event collaborations. The Cybercab is a driverless personal transportation pod with no steering wheel or pedals. It features a unique electric brake-by-wire system that eliminates the need for master cylinders and brake lines, which helps reduce production costs. The vehicle's body panels are made of injection-molded polyurethane to further minimize manufacturing expenses. While the vehicle is already being tested, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into the certification process and technical data used by Tesla for the Cybercab. Following the launch, Tesla's stock price saw a decline as the vehicle's debut was met with a mixed reception from investors.
