Anton Siluanov attends G20 summit and meets with Scott Bessent to discuss a 28-point peace plan for Ukraine

Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov attended the G20 finance ministers’ meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, marking his first trip to the United States since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. During the summit, Anton Siluanov held discussions with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding a 28-point peace plan for Ukraine. The plan, which was prepared last year and stalled following several unsuccessful rounds of negotiations, was endorsed by Trump. Siluanov’s presence at the summit was not welcomed by all European leaders. Germany's Vice Chancellor and finance minister Lars Klingbeil demanded that Russia end the war and requested that Siluanov be excluded from the official group photograph. European officials eventually took the photo without Siluanov, while Scott Bessent posed for a solo picture with the Russian official. The administration announced that it would support an appeal to the Supreme Court to allow Republican campaign groups to air television ads at a discounted rate. This move is expected to benefit Republicans, who raise significant funds through party committees. Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy declared an emergency shutdown of 110 commercial driver’s license schools due to safety violations and a lack of English proficiency among drivers.
