US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that a nuclear agreement with Iran may not be reached, suggesting the United States may instead focus on destroying Iran's capacity to develop and deploy nuclear weapons. Wright noted that the administration is currently degrading Iran's nuclear capabilities and that a future agreement may await the next administration in Iran. While the administration remains open to diplomacy, the US military is currently working to strangle the Iranian economy to force a change in policy or government. The conflict has resulted in elevated global oil prices and record diesel prices in the United States. President Trump described the conflict as "small potatoes" and a "military conflict" rather than a full war, while Vice President JD Vance suggested the conflict has cooled. The administration also turned its attention to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, sending peace envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Moscow and Kyiv. Meanwhile, the administration is pressuring Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh to cut interest rates or refrain from raising them.
