Iceland's Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir summoned U.S. Ambassador Billy Long to express that the map was completely unacceptable and an insult to the nation's sovereignty. Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that Mexico is a free, independent, and sovereign nation that is neither a colony nor a protectorate of any foreign country. Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen described the map as disturbing and a sign of a maximalist vision. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen noted that the Greenlandic government and people do not wish to be American. The map follows previous statements by President Trump regarding his desire to control Greenland and his suggestion to rename New Mexico as "New America."
