President Trump signs drug pricing deals with nine pharmaceutical companies to lower costs for Americans

The administration announced that President Trump secured new drug pricing deals with nine pharmaceutical companies, including Alcon, Astellas Pharma, BeOne Medicines, BridgeBio, CSL, Kyowa Kirin, Sun Pharma, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and UCB. Under these agreements, the companies will provide discounted outpatient drugs to every state Medicaid program to align U.S. prices with those in foreign countries. The companies also committed to invest at least $19.6 billion in U.S. manufacturing. President Trump stated that these new deals bring the total to 26 companies, representing 90% of the domestic pharmaceutical market. The administration announced that the nine new firms are midsize companies and that the other 10% of the industry is also expected to come into the agreements. These deals are part of the administration's "most-favored-nation" policy, which aims to make U.S. drug prices comparable to those in other developed nations. The administration announced that the companies will also donate active pharmaceutical ingredients to the federal government's strategic reserve. President Trump said the deals are projected to save Americans more than $600 billion over a very short period of time.
