Freedom of the Press Foundation and The Intercept sue to block President Trump's $100,000 monthly Truth Social subscription for early access to official announcements.

The Freedom of the Press Foundation and The Intercept have filed a federal lawsuit to block the administration's plan to sell early access to President Trump's official social media posts on Truth Social. The administration announced that subscribers can pay up to $100,000 a month for the Truth API, which provides real-time access to market-moving announcements, such as policy decisions and war declarations, milliseconds before the general public. Plaintiffs argue that the plan is unconstitutional, violating the First and Fifth Amendments by restricting equal access to public information. Critics, including Rep. Jamie Raskin, have described the plan as a 'smash-and-grab get-rich-quick scheme' that turns the White House into an insider trading conspiracy. While Trump Media & Technology Group seeks to generate revenue growth, legal experts and Democratic lawmakers have raised concerns about the ethics of the president personally profiting from public statements he creates in his official capacity. The lawsuit seeks to make the government bar the administration's plan to monetize public information for a private company owned by President Trump.
