President Trump nominates Hung Cao for permanent Secretary of the Navy position

The administration announced that President Trump has nominated Hung Cao to serve as the permanent Secretary of the Navy. Hung Cao has served in the acting capacity for this role since John Phelan departed the position in April. Hung Cao is a retired Navy captain and a decorated special operations officer who spent 25 years in the navy as a special operations officer. He served with Seal teams and special forces in areas such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. Before his current acting role, he served as the Navy undersecretary, where he championed the reinstatement of service members who were discharged due to the Covid-19 vaccine mandate. The nomination comes as the navy faces scrutiny over the conditions of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier during its nine-month deployment. Democratic lawmakers have expressed concerns regarding the deteriorating mental health of the crew and shortages of supplies. President Trump described Hung Cao as a true warrior and requested that the Senate confirm the nomination as soon as possible.
