Paula Cortes Calle Urges National Government to Implement Measures for Tourism Reactivation in Earthquake-Affected Regions

Paula Cortes Calle, president of the Association of National Travel Agencies (Anato), has called on the national government to provide urgent measures to reactivate the tourism sector in areas impacted by the recent earthquake. During the 30th National Congress of Travel Agencies and Tourism Associations, Paula Cortes Calle highlighted that approximately 40 travel agencies were affected by the seismic event. To support the industry, the administration proposed measures including subsidies to maintain job positions, a reduction in VAT for airline tickets and tourist packages, and tax relief. The congress, held in Barranquilla, also featured insights from Rafael Diaz, who confirmed that major attractions in the Eje Cafetero region, such as Parque del Café, are now operational. Additionally, Carolina Clavijo, president of Anato Antioquia-Chocó, reported that 95% of Chocó's tourist attractions have been reactivated. Industry leaders emphasized that while technology and artificial intelligence are tools, human experience remains central to travel, and they urged travelers to continue visiting regions that remain functional to support local families and reconstruction efforts.
