Turkiye requests international arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu over alleged genocide in Gaza

Turkiye has requested that Interpol issue a "red notice" for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 35 other officials, accusing them of genocide, crimes against humanity, and torture. Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek stated that the request follows the Israeli military's interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla in May, which resulted in the detention of over 400 participants. Ankara aims to use all legal mechanisms to ensure Israel is held accountable for its actions in the Gaza Strip. While Turkiye has been a vocal critic of the Israeli military's operations, the Israeli government has responded with criticism. The Prime Minister's Office stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is an "antisemitic dictator" and dismissed the Turkish request as a petty political tactic. The request follows a recent IDF strike in Syria, which Turkiye claims was an attempt by Israel to legitimize its airstrikes on Syrian sovereignty. Turkiye maintains it will continue to cooperating with the Syrian Government to establish peace and stability.
