The United Arab Emirates has imposed an indefinite trade embargo on Iran, halting all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions until further notice. The administration announced the decision in response to Iranian forces allegedly firing two ballistic missiles at the UAE, which targeted maritime traffic. While Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the accusation as baseless, the UAE's move is significant because Dubai is Iran's most important trading partner, supplying roughly a third of Iran's imports. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei denied reports of a secret backchannel meeting between the U.S. and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Erbil, calling the other reports of a secret meeting as a media tactic.
