Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser to the President of the UAE, stated that the United Arab Emirates is developing alternative routes for energy exports and trade to reduce its reliance on vulnerable shipping corridors. This move follows a period of conflict with Iran, during which the UAE was targeted by approximately 3,300 missiles and drones. Gargash noted that while an effective relationship with Iran can be restored, rebuilding the trust that was shattered by the war may take years or decades. To mitigate the impact of the conflict, the UAE is expanding port capacity on its eastern coast and developing pipelines, railways, and trade routes. Gargash emphasized that the UAE's energy exports and economic activity will not be held hostage by the disruption of maritime shipping lanes. He also highlighted the UAE's resilience, noting that non-oil foreign trade increased by 13% during the first half of the year despite the security challenges. Gargash further stated that the UAE is pursuing strategic autonomy through credible deterrence and robust partnerships with international allies like the United States.
