United Auto Workers Union members who work for John Deere rejected a proposal to extend their current contract by two years. The vote resulted in the want to return to full negotiations in October 2027 rather than extending the agreement until 2029. John Deere officials expressed disappointment with the outcome, noting that the company sought the extension to provide stability and certainty in a2 challenging market environment. Despite reporting strong quarterly earnings and a net income projection of roughly $5 billion, the company faces a production slowdown where major factories are running at less than half the volume of previous contract talks. The union represents approximately 10,000 workers across the Midwest. While the company aimed for early certainty, the union members decided to prioritize reopening the bargaining table next fall. The current agreement remains in effect until October 2027, at which point the company and the union will begin new negotiations.
