Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the King of Tooro in western Uganda, died at the age of 34. The monarch, who was crowned at three years old in 1995, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's youngest reigning monarch. Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki announced the death on Thursday night, noting that the king had been receiving medical treatment in the United States for an undisclosed condition. While the king remained unmarried, the administration confirmed that the continuity of the crown is assured as he left behind a prince as his heir. A 21-member committee of Babiito clan elders has been formed to oversee the succession process and manage the traditional ceremonies required to identify the successor. President Yoweri Museveni commended the late king for maintaining strong ties with the central government and avoiding divisive politics. The Tooro Kingdom remains a cultural institution with significant social influence, though it lacks formal political power.
