Canadian Court Orders Government to Decide on Naser Mansoursharifloo's Visa Application

A Canadian court has ordered the government to make a final decision on the visa application of Naser Mansoursharifloo, an Iranian citizen and former project manager at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. The application, which was submitted in January 2024, spent 911 days in security screening, significantly exceeding government processing estimates for Iranian visitor visas. The court ruled that the government failed to provide sufficient evidence to explain the lengthy screening process. While the order does not require Canada to approve the visa, it mandates a decision within 60 days of the September 1 ruling. This case highlights a broader effort by the Canadian government to scrutinize applicants with backgrounds in Iranian government institutions. Since 2022, authorities have moved to bar or remove senior Iranian government officials from the country. This includes the deportation of Abbas Omidi, a former senior official in Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, who is currently seeking removal from Toronto. The administration also listed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity in 2024.
