Margarita Reut is arrested for allegedly assassinating Russian naval officer Robert Shageev in Crimea

A Russian woman, Margarita Reut, was arrested in Sevastopol, Crimea, for allegedly assassinating a high-ranking Russian naval officer. The target, Robert Shageev, was a former Ukrainian submarine commander who defected to Russia in 2014. Shageev was allegedly killed by a bomb planted in a trash bin by Reut, who acted on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence agencies. Russian authorities reported that Reut, a 32-year-old resident of Sochi, was detained shortly after the blast. She allegedly confessed to the attack and showed no remorse for the successful assassination. Reut had previously been identified as a Ukraine sympathizer, having been fined in July 2025 for allegedly discrediting the Russian military. The attack occurred in the city of Sevastopol, where several other explosions were reported. Separately, the administration announced that a Russian drone attack on a passenger train in the Odesa region killed two people. Ukraine has also proposed a deal to Russia to halt attacks on civilian ships in the Black Sea to reopen a grain corridor.
