Ukraine Strikes Russian Arctic Gas Facilities in Deepest Long-Range Drone Attack to Date

Ukrainian forces conducted their deepest long-range drone strike to date, hitting two major Russian gas processing plants in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug region. The Novy Urengoy Gas Condensate Treatment Plant and the Purovsky Gas Processing Plant were struck by Ukrainian FP-1 drones, reaching targets nearly 3,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The Novy Urengoy plant, known as Russia's gas capital, has an annual capacity of 19.5 million tons, while the Purovsky plant has an capacity of 13.4 million tons. The Yamalo-Nenets region is a critical energy hub, hosting approximately 80 percent of Russia's natural gas production and two-thirds of its gas reserves. The administration announced that the strikes were conducted using drones produced by the Ukrainian company Fire Point. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the strike as completely justified. The attack demonstrates Ukraine's ability to conduct long-range strikes against Russian energy infrastructure throughout European Russia, exploiting Russia's lack of air defenses over its vast territory.
