Ruslan Kravchenko resigns as Ukraine's prosecutor general amid corruption investigation into fraudulent call centers
Ruslan Kravchenko has submitted his resignation as Ukraine's prosecutor general to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and parliament. The decision follows an investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) into a criminal organization that allegedly protected fraudulent call centers. Investigators discovered that a senior official within the prosecutor general's office allegedly received systematic bribes from these call centers, which targeted Ukrainians, Russians, and EU citizens. The proceeds from these schemes were allegedly laundered through property purchases and bank accounts. While the Kravchenko office was searched and recordings identified a person with the patronymic Andriiovych who previously headed the State Tax Service—matching Kravchenko—the prosecutor general denied any personal involvement in the scheme. Kravchenko described his resignation as a political decision, stating he did not want the position to be used as an instrument of political confrontation. During the investigation, Serhii Kropyva, a deputy head of the international cooperation department, was detained and remanded in custody. Court materials allege Kropyva arranged repairs for Kravchenko's home in Kozyn, suggesting a close relationship between the two officials.
